Muscat Governorate is the political, economic, and administrative capital of the Sultanate of Oman. Its name is derived from its rich maritime history, as “Muscat” (the place of falling) was a landing and unloading point for ship anchors and goods arriving across the Indian Ocean. It has a strategic location on the Gulf of Oman, bordered to the east by the Eastern Hajar Mountains, to the west by South Al Batinah Governorate, and to the south by Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate. It combines the grandeur of history with the beauty of nature, as it lies between sandy beaches and towering mountains, and includes six wilayats: Muscat, Muttrah, Bawshar, Seeb, Al Amerat, and Qurayyat.
