The Governorate of South Al Batinah is one of the strategic governorates in the Sultanate of Oman, and its administrative center is the wilayat of Rustaq. The governorate lies between the Gulf of Oman to the east and the foothills of the Western Hajar Mountains to the west, giving it a vital location that combines beautiful coastlines with ancient mountain terrain.

Administratively, the governorate consists of six wilayats: Rustaq, Barka, Al Musannah, Nakhal, Al Awabi, and Wadi Al Maawil.

While many achievements have been made in the areas of services, roads, communications, and urban planning in step with the development of economic and social life in the Sultanate, equal attention has also been given to beautifying and planning the cities and developing their tourist sites, including natural springs such as Ain Al Kasfa in the wilayat of Rustaq and Ain Al Thawra in the wilayat of Nakhal. These are among the most famous mineral and hot springs in the Sultanate, in addition to the large public parks.

Ain Al-Kasfah is located in Al Rustaq in the Al Batinah Governorate of Oman. It is a natural hot spring with a constant water temperature of 45°C (113°F). The hot water flows through several small channels to irrigate the surrounding farms and orchards. Ain Al-Kasfah is well known for its sulfur-rich mineral water, which is believed to be a natural remedy for rheumatic diseases and is also used to help treat various skin conditions.

Al Hazm Fort is located in the town of Al Hazm, in Al Rustaq of Al Batinah Governorate, Oman. The fort features a number of traditional Omani defensive elements, including a massive wooden gate, secret escape tunnels, fortified towers, and cannon towers with gun ports on the upper levels. Above the main entrance are defensive openings through which boiling oil or heated date syrup could be poured onto attackers during times of siege.

Nakhal Fort is located at the entrance to the Wilayat of Nakhal, adjacent to the old Nakhal Souq. Behind the fort flows Wadi Al-Sibat, which extends from Wadi Al-Hammam in the South Al Batinah Governorate. The fort derives its name from the wilayat itself. Surrounded by lush date palm plantations, it is a fortified structure built atop a rocky hill rising approximately 200 feet (61 meters) above the surrounding landscape.

Ain Al Thowarah is located in the Wilayat of Nakhal and is considered one of the most famous natural springs in the Sultanate of Oman. It is a hot mineral spring that flows abundantly from a solid mountain throughout the year. The water maintains a temperature of approximately 40°C (104°F). Visitors come to the spring seeking its therapeutic benefits, particularly for relieving joint pain and helping treat various skin conditions.

The Daymaniyat Islands Nature Reserve is a marine archipelago consisting of nine islands located off the coasts of the Wilayats of Seeb and Barka in Oman. The reserve is renowned for its crystal-clear blue waters, rare coral reefs, and its importance as a vital habitat for seabirds and marine turtles. It was officially designated as a nature reserve in 1996 and is managed by the Environment Authority of Oman.
